It's good to be alive. Belly is full, everyone is together...well, almost everyone. And life is pretty sweet.
This is my first Thanksgiving where I'm feeling better. It was nice to share cooking the meal with Kaso. We make a pretty fine plate.
I especially like all the kiddy poo-poos running around.
Happy Thanksgiving. May you all feel so blessed.

- I have many nicknames, but this is how most of my friends address me. Welcome. I live in San Francisco and this blog will very much incorporate my environments, both current and past, as they form my unique experience. I was born in New Mexico, the state motto "Land of Enchantment," grew up in Tucson, AZ and have lived in San Francisco and/or Manhattan for all of my adult years. In January '08, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. Cancer is a difficult and ambiguous journey. I had wonderful care and was fortunate to have healthcare benefits, without which I would not be here today. But there were also an inordinate number of surprises along the way. Side effects begot unexpected side effects. Doctors focused only on their specialty and often didn't know or care about ways to mitigate or prevent additional issues like neuropathy, lymphedema, allergic reactions, etc. So, I've started a blog to share all that I've learned as well as a laugh or two. It is for anyone passionate about learning and living. Let me know what you think.

What's Going On?
Introducing . . .
My friend Denise. Denise just moved back home to Hawaii with her husband Brian to be near family while they tackle a 2nd round of chemo. Nise and I met about this time last year at a UCSF Breast Cancer Support Group meeting. I'd just finished radiation and she was just beginning chemo. Neither of us continued attending that group for much longer, but found in each other a strong commonality and began sharing tips for coping. Emails turned into cafes which turned into long walks on Ocean Beach or Lands End Trail. I am confident our bond is not just breast cancer, although we speak freely with each other in that language. Breast cancer simply brought us into each other's path. Denise has what they call Triple Negative breast cancer. Simply put, it's very complicated. Denise didn't expect to need more chemo so soon after completing her own radiation this summer, but it metastasized. I've been thinking about it for a long time. I'd like to raise $5K to help with their medical costs. Their family has setup an emergency fund given their burden of $80,000 in medical bills. $80K would ruin many of us. Stay tuned for more.
